Stained Glass Metaphor
I recently came across the metaphor of stained glass as a representation of the world reading a message from Sai Baba. If you go into a cathedral you see beautiful stained glass depicting various scenes from the Bible. These designs are very ornate and colorful, and they can be seen as a example of the complexity and diversity that exists in the world around us.
Now what would happen if there was no light behind these images? There would be nothing to see. It's the light that gives these images their character, personality and form. Are they many lights? No there is just one light shining through all of these images giving them vibrancy and color. That one light is the source of all.
Similarly we and the world around us are like the images in the stained glass. We have assumed various ornate and colorful forms yet the same light that illuminates one image illuminates another. What all of us truly are is the one light that shines through everything.
